The record

Why people are boycotting

These are the complaints that keep surfacing in reviews, complaint boards, newsrooms and courtrooms. Loudly. Repeatedly. Unresolved.

01

Junk fees at checkout

The cleaning fee appears after you have already fallen for the photos. The US Better Business Bureau logged 7,660 Airbnb complaints in three years, and a full-price display only arrived after public backlash in 2023.

02

Hidden cameras

Guests keep discovering concealed surveillance devices, including police-reported finds in bathrooms. Banning cameras is Airbnb's policy; enforcing that ban in real bedrooms is the problem.

03

Cancelled the night before

Hosts cancel hours before check-in and travellers land stranded in a strange city. Airbnb's own community forums have pages and pages of it, often with the review of the cancelled stay wiped away too.

04

No human support

Scripted replies, denied refunds and no phone number. When a stay goes wrong at 2am, consumers report shouting into a void while their money sits in Airbnb's account.

05

Not the property you booked

The listing showed a bright 3-bedroom; the arrival was a dusty, different address entirely. Misrepresentation is one of the most repeated stories on this platform. You pay for the photos, not the reality.

06

Still listing settlements

The record speaks for itself: Airbnb removed listings in West Bank settlements in 2018 under public pressure, then reversed the decision in 2019 after lawsuits. Amnesty International called the company “deeply compromised” in 2020. In July 2024 the International Court of Justice held that the settlements are illegal under international law. Investigations in 2025 found the listings still online. Consumers are asking a simple question: why?

Complaint themes on this page summarize widely reported consumer experiences and public reporting. Individual accounts are those of their authors. The campaign does not present them as independently verified findings.

How this started

Leonard R. reports that he experienced a serious safety and privacy concern during an Airbnb stay in Ontario in May 2026 and subsequently initiated legal proceedings concerning the dispute.
This is the account of the individual concerned. Legal allegations, documents, Airbnb’s statements and any court determinations are always kept separate and clearly attributed. Nothing here should be read as a court’s finding of fact. Read the campaign principles →
